Storage Terms You Should Know

1st of Month Billing – Rent is due on the 1st of each month. First month may be prorated if moving in after the 7th.

Access Controlled Gate – Entry is allowed only with a personal access code for security and monitoring.

Access Hours – The times you can access your unit, usually aligned with gate hours.

Auto Bill Pay – Automatically deducts your monthly payment from a chosen source.

Non-Climate Control – Units are not temperature regulated and experience normal seasonal temperature changes.

Cylinder Lock / Lock – High-security lock provided for indoor units; only the tenant has the key.

Drive-Up / Indoor / Outdoor Storage – Units can be accessed directly from your vehicle (drive-up), indoors, or outside (for vehicles, boats, or RVs).

Gate Access Code / Keypad – Unique code used to enter the facility; keep it private.

Insurance – Self-storage facilities are not responsible for contents. Check your homeowner/renter’s policy or consider separate storage insurance.

Month-to-Month Lease – Flexible lease continuing as long as rent is paid; no long-term commitment required.

On-Site / Resident Manager – Manager lives on or near the property and is available for assistance and security.

Perishable / Hazardous Materials – Items that spoil or are dangerous (food, plants, chemicals, explosives) are not allowed.

Pro-Rated Payment – Payment adjusted for partial months when leasing mid-month.

Reservation / Courtesy Hold – Temporary hold on a unit to ensure it’s available on moving day, subject to availability.

Roll-Up Door – Doors roll up for easy access and maximize interior space.

Rental Lease / Agreement – Legal contract outlining all terms and conditions of your storage rental.

Self-Storage – The tenant is responsible for moving items in and out of the unit.

Storage Tax – Taxes applied to rentals as required by law.

Unit – The storage space rented (also called locker, space, or storeroom).

Video Surveillance – Security cameras monitor the property to promote safety and deter theft.

Reservation - The reservation fee will be applied at move in.
